Yiorgo holds a Ph.D. in Sociology from the Department of Sociology and Criminology & Law at the University of Florida. Yiorgo’s research interests lie within the field of Historical Sociology. His dissertation, which received the Modern Greek Studies Association's prestigious John O. Iatrides Best Dissertation Award (2022 - 2025), proposes the Whitening Process Model as an epistemological framework for understanding the dynamics of social construction, contestation, and social memory of White identity. Yiorgo’s research complements scholarship that decouples Whiteness from White supremacy. He is currently preparing a monograph that explores the early 20th-century experiences of Ottoman Greek migrant identity construction, contestation, and transgenerational memory transfer in a US context.
